Felt woodland Animal masks {time to pretend}

I really wanted to capture the children in their newly made animal masks. How could I pass up on an opportunity, especially when they were all sooo keen!
Had to get one with my deer mask on!! We had sooo much fun posing and pretending! (if you missed my first post about the making of the masks go HERE!)

Desert science experiment

This week we were looking at Desert habitats so to go along with that on science Wednesday we did an experiment to show how cactus expands when it rains.
Here is what you need......
Folded cardstock (like a fan)
A dish
tape or Staples to hold the card in a tube shape
We put the "cactus" in the dish and poured water in...... We all honestly thought that it would happen quite instantly, that is that it would soak up all the water and probably fall over, or simply would fall over!! (I know, not the most positive thinking.....)

But after about 15 minutes when nothing happened we then added a water "cactus" This soon fell over once the base was wet!

Ummmmmmm, Zeke then decided to ROLL the "cactus" into the water and then stand up again!! And what do you suppose, it WORKED!! From there is slowly opened up and spread out all the folds and STILL WAS STANDING!!!! YAY! YAY! Yippee!!!
It was fun, messy and a good lesson in waiting!!!

Grass heads experiment {for Grassland habitat}

Each week we are looking at different habitats, then on Wednesday we do an experiment for that habitat. I've been really enjoying Wednesdays and seeing how excited my treasures are at the new experiment. Afterwards I get them to write down all the info in a Science worksheet and then they stick the info with pictures in their Animal unit study book. For this week we did some "egg heads" growing grass hair. They all decorated/made their person's clothes, then drew in the face and added the seeds!

Hannah's first, then Zeke, Sophia's & lastly Esther's

The first 3 days of waiting seemed to take AGES for the children, they kept saying
"when is it going to grow?"
Then on day 4 we saw something.........

 then by day 6 they looked like THIS!!!
And now they are well and truly needing a hair cut!!

Sophia announced tonight that she wants to keep hers till next year, then their hair will be all over the place! (I mentioned that we probably won't be keeping them that long.....)
Science has been fun this term!!

Polar bear art {Arctic animals}

We had sooo much fun with our Arctic animals. I found this amazing blog HERE with all things to do with art and children and in the list was this fabbo art project on Polar Bears.
Hannah loved it (which was wonderful as it's not one of her favourite subjects) and was super impressed with her background!!!
Each step was really well explained and my treasures had the best time seeing their project come to life!!

Esther added ALL the details including a smile for her bears

Hannah decided to leave her Polar bears as silhouettes

Zeke went round all of his to finish it off (like the example!)

and Sophia added a little detail but not too much!

I find it soooo interesting how different all their "Art" ideas are! Soooo wonderful to be involved in!
So thanks HEAPS Gail for your wonderful step by step instructions and templates to make these fantastic projects!!!!

We have only had 2 days of September, two wonderful days of Spring and Ohhh how delightful it has been! The girls especially have LOVED getting out their dresses, making daisy chains and feeling free in there flowy clothes.

I hope that whatever the weather were you are that it is also "delightful!"
