Nursery Rhyme Unit study week #2 Sing a song of Sixpence

We are now up to week 4 of our Unit study but I've been wanting to share with you a run down on each week and haven't had time to do it till now.....
For our second week we studied Sing a Song of Sixpence. There was lots we could do with this rhyme including of course Black birds, Sixpence and other old coins and rye! At the end of the week the children put together a play of the rhyme. They had soo much fun getting their costumes organized and props too, it was so delightful to see! Even Zeke got in full character and happily played along!
Here they are, posing for the camera....
King Ezekiel
 Queen Hannah
Blackbird Esther (love the corn in the background)
 Maid Sophia

And now for the play!
Introducing the Torrents' Children staring in ...
.Sing a song of Sixpence!
Do join with me in the singing..

Sing a song of sixpence, a pocket full of rye
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing
Wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the King.

The King was in his counting house,
counting out his money,
The Queen was in the parlour
eating bread and honey,
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes
when along came a blackbird
   and pecked off her nose!!
As you can see they did a great job! I totally loved the little blackbird, i must say she was my favourite!
SO cute!!
I found THIS site hugely helpful for activities for the little girls and HERE is where I made the crown for Hannah (and all the other children last year for our study on the Queen!)
The next rhyme was London Bridge, I'll be sure to post about that soon!
